Beals to coach one last time at all-star game

TOLEDO n- The last chance for fans to watch 30 seniors of both the Little Illini and National Trail Conferences is tonight at Waldrip gym as the 14th Annual Central Illinois All-Star game is to take place. The Little Illini Conference all-star team is to play the National Trail Conference team at 7:30 p.m. A three-point contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. with a cost of $3.

It is also the last chance to see Grant Beals, coach of Beecher City coach. Beals, who guided the Eagles to a 17-12 record and a 6-3 mark in the National Trail Conference (tied for third with Neoga) has resigned as he wants to spend more time with his family. Beals, who sells insurance, coached Beecher City to a 96-110 record in eight years. He is to be assisted by Brownstown coach Eric Lux for the NTC team.

The LIC is to be coached by Marshall’s Tom Brennan and Oblong’s Bill Wimmersberg.

Area players on the NTC include Neoga’s David Massengill along with Windsor’s Ace Camfield and Andy Bullock.

Each team has 15 players. The LIC area players are Ian Littlejohn, Lydon Burson and Brennan Ragon of Casey-Westfield along with Bart Holsapple and Luke Plummer of Cumberland and Martinsville’s Matt Higginbotham.

The NTC has won 10 games, but the LIC won last year’s event 135-123.

The LIC team also includes Logan Holmes of Edwards County; Kaleb Greenwood of Flora; Rick Mendnhall of Hustonville-Palestine; Jordan Kull of Lawrenceville; Marc Sakowicz of Lawrenceville; Chase Boyer of Marshall; Landon Littlejohn of Oblong and Robert Petty and Lenny Diggs of Red Hill.

The NTC team also includes Altamont’s Eric Heiden and Ethan Wolf as well as Trenton Rexroad and Deano Tull of Beacher City. Effingham St. Anthony has three players in Zac Bochtler, Chris Bohnhoff and Jesse Mumm, while Logan Mahon of St. Elmo is also scheduled to play. Teutopolis, the IHSA Class A third place team, has four player in Rich Borries, Wade Koester, Jason Runde and Criag Westendorf.

A Most Valuable Player for each team is to be selected and are to receive a plaque.
