Von Behrens retires after 42 years of service
Harold Von Behrens of Mattoon has retired after serving Central Illinois Mutual Insurance Company as an agent and member of the Board of Directors for 42 years.

Over the years, he has attended numerous national conventions along with his late wife Marjorie. The Von Behrens were married for 58 years prior to Marjorie’s death in 2005. Altogether, Harold estimated that he attended over 50 state and national insurance company conventions.

Harold was also a farmer and retired from that occupation in 1990. For many years he also sold Bear Hybrid Seed Corn.

Harold sold his insurance agency to long time friend and convention pal, Michael Beaird.

“Harold has always been a dedicated and knowledgeable insurance professional. He is a math wiz, and is very precise in what he does. Harold is a lot of fun and an all around good guy. The company will miss him,” said Beaird.

Harold was so gifted in math that he graduated from Mattoon High School at the age of 16 with a few engineering credits from the University of Illinois under his belt.

According to Harold’s son, his family always came first. The Von Behrens had two children: Terry Von Behrens and Janice Reed. He also has four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Some advice Harold would give to new agents is “like anything else, you have to put your heart into it.”

Congratulatory cards may be sent to Harold Von Behrens, 9984 N. Co Rd 700E., Mattoon, IL 61938.
