CHARLESTON -- A man who contacted a woman with an order of protection against him received his fourth prison sentence in about 10 years.
Lonnie Sowell Jr., 45, 808 Jackson Ave., Charleston, pleaded guilty to a charge of violation of an order of protection that accused him of contacting the woman on Jan. 6. He agreed to a prison sentence of one year and to pay fines totaling $270.
Records show Sowell served prison sentences for several criminal convictions since 1996, including a two-year sentence for a recent domestic battery conviction.
Circuit Judge Dale Cini accepted a plea agreement in the order-of-protection case that Assistant State’s Attorney Brian Shaw and Public Defender Lonnie Lutz recommended.
In other cases in court recently, Cini also accepted guilty pleas from:
-- Chad Allen Sanders, 34, 523 W. Grant Ave., Charleston, to theft and obstructing justice charges accusing him of stealing a bicycle and then telling police a friend had lent it to him on Oct. 4.
Sanders was placed on probation for 2½ years with terms including a $500 fine, counseling and no contact with the bicycle’s owner. He’s scheduled for a hearing later this month on a pending drug charge.
In the theft case, Cini accepted the plea agreement Assistant State’s Attorney John Longwell and Lutz recommended.
-- Myra Ann Hudson, 31, 59 Old State Village, Mattoon, to burglary and forgery charges alleging she entered businesses and used another person’s credit card for purchases on Aug. 3.
Hudson was placed on probation for 2½ years with terms including payment of nearly $580 in restitution along with $750 in fines. She was also sentenced to four weekends in jail and ordered to undergo substance abuse treatment and counseling. Longwell and Lutz recommended the plea agreement.
-- Jeremiah J. Jones, 25, 709 N. 15th St., Mattoon, to an aggravated battery charge alleging he bit a police officer who responded to a fight in which Jones was involved on Sept. 23.
Terms of Jones’ 2½-year probation sentence included 40 days of work-release jail time, starting March 18, counseling, substance abuse treatment and a $500 fine. Shaw and Lutz recommended the plea agreement.
-- Renetta S. O’Dell, 27, for whom records listed address in Ashmore and Neoga, to a misdemeanor obstructing police charge alleging she made a false report of a burglary on Jan. 28 of last year. A felony disorderly conduct charge was dismissed and O’Dell was fined $1,750. Longwell and Lutz recommended the plea agreement.
-- Allison E. Wright, 26, 2200 S. 17th St., Mattoon, to a charge of driving while license revoked, a felony because of a prior conviction, stemming from a traffic stop in Mattoon on April 12. She was placed on probation for 2½ years in an agreement that Shaw and Lutz recommended.
