Eaton has upholstery needs covered

CHARLESTON -- Items ranging from furniture to vehicle seats can be upholstered at the new Eaton’s Upholstery shop.

“I upholster just about anything,” said owner Marsha Eaton of Lerna. She opened the shop on Oct. 1 at 10 Fifth St., a storefront that previously housed Chase’s Animal Feed & Supply until it relocated.

The shop handles modern and antique furniture, installing new upholstery and stuffing as needed. Eaton said she puts nails and tacks that look as original as possible on the antique furniture she upholsters.

Eaton said her customers most often bring furniture to the shop, but she has also dealt with quite a bit of vehicle seats. She can work with upholstery for cars, trucks, tractors, golf carts and more.

In addition, Eaton said she plans to start working on custom leather items in the near future. Custom leather encompasses motorcycle seats, jackets, saddle bags, chaps and many other items.

“The more unique and different the work is, the better I like it,” Eaton said.

Customers can select various types of cloth, leather and vinyl upholstery options from catalogs at the shop. The shop handles personal and business upholstery projects, including booth seats for restaurants.

Eaton said she decided to open a shop of her own after working for a furniture factory and for a professional upholsterer over the years.

“I have been sewing all my life,” Eaton said.

The upholstery shop is open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every week. For more information, call Eaton’s Upholstery at 345-6699.
