Mid America Motorworks changes name, adds features in 30th year

EFFINGHAM -- People across the globe with a passion for motoring around know of this Illinois town.

It's the home of a business that has helped people enjoy driving even more through direct distribution of parts and accessories for Corvettes as well as Porsches and classic Volkswagens.

It's the host of a huge gathering of Corvette lovers each summer, which helped inspire a transportation festival that has entertained thousands over the years.

And it's the site of a museum filled with dozens of vintage Corvettes and other collector vehicles.

Now, in its 30th year of business, Mid America Motorworks' plans call for even more features for car enthusiasts to enjoy.

Formerly known as Mid America Direct, the company, located north of Effingham along U.S. Route 45, recently changed its name from Mid America Direct to better reflect its expansions through the years.

More changes include a new slogan, "Pursue Your Passion Here," a new logo, and plans to build an autocross track and a drag strip.

"Most companies have settled into a routine before they are 30," said Mike Yager, company founder. "But our 30th year will be one of the most exciting times in our history."

Mid America Motorworks' autocross track and a drag strip will be built at the company headquarters in Effingham. The tracks will be used to test products before the items are added to the company's catalogs.

Car clubs will be welcome to use the tracks on weekends for club meetings, car shows, swap meets, low/medium speed autocross events and drag racing.

In addition to the racetracks, other automotive projects, including a new museum and restoration center, are in the works.

"We encourage enthusiasts to pursue their passion for Corvettes, Porsches, and classic Volkswagens," Yager said. "Our 30th anniversary plans take automotive entertainment to the next level. In addition to providing automotive parts and accessories, Mid America Motorworks is now a destination for car enthusiasts to pursue their passion."

The new name "Mid America Motorworks" becomes the umbrella for all future activities and product lines. The former Mid America Direct, Mid America Designs, Tweeks, and The Real Source names will no longer be used.

Yager and his staff have entertained customers over the years.

Corvette Fest draws collectors and their vehicles from across the country, as well as automotive experts.

Tens of thousands of Corvette lovers gather on the grounds during the festival. Celebrations for Volkswagen and Porsche owners have also been added.

Corvette Fest inspired the establishment of the Effingham Transportation Festival about 10 years ago.

Yager's museum, MY Garage, is open for tours year-round.
