Dailey ties 3's record in loss to Indiana State

CHARLESTON -- Senior Lauren Dailey tied the career record for 3-point field goals, but the Panthers could not completely erase a 13-point halftime deficit losing 81-70 to Indiana State Tuesday night. Playing their first home game in exactly four weeks, the Panthers fell to 3-7 overall.

Late in the first half Dailey tied Barb Perkes' 14-year old record when she drained a trey from the top of the key, giving her 137 all-time.

The Sycamores (6-3 overall) led by as many as 17 in the opening half, shooting 41 percent from the field to hold a 40-27 lead at the break.

Eastern trimmed the deficit to eight on two occasions midway through the final half. ISU led 71-57 with just under six minutes left when the Panthers rallied. Pam O'Connor made an inside move to score, Melanie Ploger drained a 3-pointer, Megan Casad hit a pair of free throws and Dailey's baseline jumper capped a 9-1 run as 3:30 remained.

The Panthers cut the deficit to five a minute later when O'Connor hit 1-of-2 free throws. Celeste Hlebovy missed both attempts from the line but Stephanie Lisch grabbed the offensive rebound, made her shot, was fouled and converted a 3-point play.

O'Connor made two more charity stripe attempts making it a 75-69 ballgame, but that would be the closest Eastern would get. Melanie Boeglin beat the Panther defense down the lane then later hit two free throws extending the lead to 10.

Held to four first half points, O'Connor shared game-high honors with 18 points and eight rebounds. Megan Sparks contributed 17 points, also scoring 14 in the second half. Dailey ended with 11 points.

Lisch matched O'Connor with 18 points and eight boards, one of four Sycamores scoring in double-figures.

Eastern closes out its non-conference schedule this Saturday, traveling to Iowa State for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
